The Dead Weather

Let me tell you how much I love Jack White. The White Stripes are an amazing band and I’ve enjoyed every one of their albums since the first sounds of White Blood Cells graced my eardrums. Then Jack takes a little break from The Stripes and decides to start a new band called The Raconteurs. I was impressed with their first album. Although it wasn’t the greatest in terms of lyrics, it was a good start. Another White Stripes AND Raconteurs album later and Jack decides to start yet ANOTHER band.

The band is The Dead Weather and the album is called Horehound. It is a pulsating, bomb-blasting, speaker-blowing, head-banging, some sort of amazing. The band is made up of Alison Mosshart of The Kills, Dean Fertita of Queens of the Stone Age, Jack Lawrence of The Greenhornes and The Raconteurs, and of course, my main man Jack White. He plays drums in this band. Is there anything this man cannot do? Alison’s vocals fit perfectly with Jack’s as they trade off vocal duties on most songs. The guitar work sounds like a chainsaw cutting through the fluffy riff-raff to get right down to business(you can hear the QOTSA influence here). Jack is surprisingly capable in his new role as drummer/singer. The organs add a bit of funk and psychedelia to the songs.

So many great songs here. “Hang You From the Heavens,” “Cut Like a Buffalo,” “Treat Me Like Your Mother,” “Rocking Horse,” and “Will There Be Enough Water” stand out to me, in other words, I love these songs. Every one of these songs has something to offer though. There isn’t a let down from beginning to end. And isn’t that what we’ve come to expect from Jack White? No let downs. Only rock. Straight up and to the point. Different flavors, but it all flows from the same genius. God bless you Mr. White and may you continue to give bless us with your amazing talents for years and years to come. Whatever form it comes in, I’ll take it.
